West Ham reportedly pay a small six million for Downing, which is a lot less than what Liverpool paid two years ago to Aston Villa. The winger made, for approximately 23 million move to Anfield, where he never managed to break through. Downing made in his first season not even a goal in the competition.
Last season, the 34-time international managed to get three hits, but Downing is not in the plans of Brendan Rodgers. The coach is also prepared to let the substantial loss go and the bad bargain of his predecessor Kenny Dalglish's future Downing is probably at West Ham. Newcastle United was also in the race, but they seem to let him walk.
Stewart Downing is this summer the fifth buy of West Ham United. The 29-year-old winger comes from Liverpool and he has signed for four seasons in East London. Previously the Hammers took Andy Carroll to from Liverpool. Downing made his name at Middlesbrough and Aston Villa and with his good game in 2011 he earned a transfer to Liverpool, that approximately 23 million paid for him. At Anfield he could not meet the expectations. The current transfer both parties do not disclose, but presumably it is about six million.
